We all love an Aero don’t we?
With it’s cool name and unusual texture full of bubbles,
it was definitely a childhood favourite of mine and – because I’ve never
advanced past nine years old – still a go-to chocolate bar of choice now.
But brands in the current market have to be featured on
far more things than just chocolate bars; be it drinks, cars or badgers,
chocolate brands must conquer them all.
So, an Aero yoghurt. Or mousse as it’s described.
Personally, I don’t think it’s either; and for a mousse, surely it should be
thick and fulfilling rather than the, er, airy, complexion of the Aero’s style.
The name itself, though, is certainly a mouthful; which
is also how the product is eaten: a couple of healthy spoonfuls and the carton
becomes bare. As empty as a student’s bank account. More bereft of substance
than a reality TV show.
The mousse positively contains probably thousands of the
iconic bubbles (I’ll let you count how many – then you can post it on Twitter
and receive a ridiculously high number of retweets as a result), which may go some
way to explaining the weightlessness of the product.
It is, however, extremely refreshing. It maintains that expert
Aero minty-ness while mixing it with a smooth chocolate twist, resulting in a
silky and moreish chilled snack. It’s as creamy as ice cream, but can be eaten
immediately without having to wait twenty years for it to defrost. And it won’t
snap any spoons.
It also serves as a useful two minute snack that satisfies
the needy parts of your brain without triggering the stressful part that you’ve
suddenly gained sixteen stone.
Plus, with two packs of four mousses available widely at
£2 they unquestionably are a bargain product.
All in all, the mint version of the Aero Mousse is a
successful re-imagination of a classic chocolate bar, but it does lack significant
substance and is noticeably a cheap product with a cheap result.
Fair’s fair: 3* out of 5.
